By popular demand, this week’s recipe is my Cheesy Roast Beef Sliders. I told you that I thrive during football season, specializing in dips and breakfast, but this is an exception because it’s so easy, anyone with two hands can make this tasty dish. I love sliders during football because they are smaller than a regular size sandwich (obvi) so you can 1) eat a bunch of them, and 2) eat lots of foods with them (i.e. chips, dips, cheese, cupcakes, cookies, I could literally keep going forever). If you ask my husband, my love affair with sliders goes back many years when he claims I ordered sliders at every restaurant he took me to on a date. This love is deep and it’s real (in the words of the icon Grace Adler). This won’t be nearly as beautiful as Chef Nick’s creations (he will be back next week don’t worry!), but I promise you these sliders will please your wild football crowds. The cheesy roast beef slider recipe is fun, and basic, so you can add other flavors you love such as horseradish or scallions, or even brown sugar to the buttery topping! Have fun with it, it’s your Sunday after all!
Cheesy Roast Beef Sliders
The Recipe
- 1lb roast beef (rare and thinly sliced if you can)
- 1 pack of King’s Hawaiian Rolls
- 1.5-2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (I prefer sharp cheddar, you could do slices instead of shredded as well)
- Any fun variation of mayo (we used smoky bacon mayo but have also used chipotle mayo)
- Freshly ground black pepper (I love my peppermill, but it doesn’t need to be freshly ground)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
When I said this was crazy simple, I wasn’t exaggerating! Last week Chef Nick taught us to gather our ingredients, so I did just that! These sliders are so good, even my dog Jonas wanted to know what I was getting ready to prepare (he’s extremely nosey and tall).
The Method
STEP 1: Pre-heat the oven to 350°F to warm up! Cut the rolls in half so you can separate the top and bottom in two easy layers. Place the bottom layer in a 9 x 13 baking dish (any rectangular baking dish that fits the rolls will do, we’re not picky here!).
STEP 2: Bunch thin slices of roast beef on every section of the bottom bun until you’ve used all the roast beef (you can stack the bunches of beef). Add some freshly ground black pepper over the roast beef to your liking. Lastly, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the beef, don’t be cheap!
STEP 3: Spread mayo on the top half buns evenly. Place the top bun on the bottom bun full of meat and cheese!
STEP 4: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter, mix melted butter with 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. Use a brush to spread the butter mixture on the top of the buns to give them a shiny buttery coat that will be flavorful and crispy once baked.
STEP 5: Bake the sliders at 350°F for 20 minutes or until the tops begin to brown. At this point your sliders will be crispy on top, and melty, roast beefy goodness in the middle. Cut along the bun lines and serve with your favorite football drinks and snacks (we served these last week with Buffalo Chicken Dip for a cheesy start to the season).
If you decide to take on this incredible challenge (challenge as in how challenging it will be NOT to eat them all) then please let us know and post a picture! If your making Chef Nick’s Spicy Sausage Dip send us that as well! Post here, tweet us @sunday_fantasy, or find us on Instagram (@sweetsweetfantastysunday)! We can’t wait to see what you cook up for another full Sunday slate of NFL games!
